January is National Soup Month...

Happy New Year!Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and 2018 is off to the good start.

Brrrr..... I don't know about you, but I can't take too much more of this arctic weather. When it's cold like this, nothing warms me up more than a cup of soup or bowl of stew. I guess that is why January is named National Soup Month. So for this weeks menu, we are offering 2 soups to help you warm up. 2 stews, Beef Bourguignon and the Lentils & Greens. The Kung Pao Potatoe is good cold weather dish as well. The chili pepper, garlic and ginger will warm you up. This recipe I tried over the break from a book I got for Christmas from KD who is trying to encourage me to prepare more Asian dishes :). And please don't miss the one Persian item on the menu, Fesenjan. My omnivorous food adviser :) sent me a text the other day asking if I have ever made this dish. Fesenjan is traditionally made with duck but is also prepared with chicken or meatballs. Selfishly we are going with vegetarian this time and offering it as a sauce to let you add your own protein. I love the sweetness of the dish which is from honey, tartness from pomegranates, and its texture and earthiness that comes from the grounded walnuts. It's a perfect dish for the cold weather. Just add cooked shredded chicken or meatballs to it and let it simmer for a few minutes before serving and serve it over rice. A glass of Chianti and it will be a perfect meal!
