Because I have too many choices...
During winter months some times writing the menu is no easy task. Finding organic and local produce can be impossible when there is an ice storm going on or the temperature is in single digits. By the time we get to March, I know you all get tired of root vegetables, winter squashes and mushrooms. How ever, months of May- October are completely different. During these months on my usual Thursdays I reach out to the local farmers and ranchers to see what is coming up that weekend; the list is so versatile and colorful my difficulty is picking what to cook, because I have too many choices, not too little.
This week was definitely one of those weeks. Peaches, plums, tomatoes, courgettes, eggplant, celery, kale, cabbage, onion,.... yum yum yum!
This weeks menu includes some of my favorite summer dishes:
Fasolia- reminds me of my childhood trips to Turkey every summer
Nora’s Best Salad Ever Restaurant Nora which closed permanently last summer, was the first restaurant to be certified organic in the United States. Of course Nora's was my favorite place to eat. This Salad was the last salad husband and I had there few days before they closed ;(
Ceci alla Siciliana- This is a dish I learned to make from a cook book Sis#1 brought back for me from her vacation few summers back and I love making it when Melody has celery from her farm. It is delicious to have on its own served cold or hot, or over a bed of greens.
Melody’s Farm Salad- Speaking of Melody, she has tons of yummy veg growing and it just makes sense to have a salad that it is all from her farm. Can't get it fresher that this!
Vichyssoise- One has to have Vichyssoise few times every summer, right? let alone if Mary is growing the leeks.
Ratatouille - Disney's Remi would be jealous of the gorgeous squashes, tomatoes, and sweet peppers that are growing in Virginia right now with all the sun and rain we have had.
Anyway, you see what I mean.... peaches, plums, tomatoes and more... yum yum yum !!!
From everyone at Ezie and Emil... It's All about food... Enjoy!
