Boost Your Immune System!!!

Influenza, Coronavirus, Norovirus, ...... eeeeeesh! Radio, television, social media, anywhere we go, all we hear is news about this virus or that virus. So Laura (my partner in crime and health guru) thought this would be a good week for us to focus on ingredients that help boost the immune system.

Your immune system is a process of checks and balances that helps fight and protect the body from disease and illness. It’s possible to naturally boost your immune system – and easier than you probably think. Really! And I don't mean just order what we have on the menu;)

Try to eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, yogurt and lean protein. Also, fit in foods with omega-3 fatty acids, like eggs, salmon and avocados, as well. All these foods will not only build up parts of your immune system, but can help you maintain a healthy weight. Studies show that absorption of vitamins and minerals from natural and unprocessed foods is more beneficial to your body than taking supplements. Your body can only absorb so much of any vitamin in a given day. Supplements can cause side effects as well. A healthy diet can easily provide what your body needs.

Laura came up with a list of ingredients we should use this week to help you, and us, to boost our immune system.

Here is the list: Ginger, garlic, broccoli, spinach, sunflower seeds, bell peppers, apples, citrus, flax seed, amino acids (found in salmon and flax seed), yogurt, kiwi, pomegranate, mushrooms, poultry and bone broth, almonds, carrots, grains (such as quinoa, rice and brown rice), kale, elderberry and a few other things that we might have to save for next week.
