A Package of Sea Buckthorn Berries???
Sis #2 is a medical doctor who practices traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Sometime in February before the craziness hit, she gave me a package of Sea Buckthorn Berries and all she said was, "This is really good for you!". Well the berries are dried, very tart, and I wasn't sure what I could use them in. I tried chewing on them but that was not too pleasant. With a little research and experiment I started making a tonic with it. Now I am obsessed with making drinks, not only with this particular concoction, but all types of herbs and spices. So each week I make the cider drink for my girls and the other tonics for myself and we just keep the jars in the fridge and have a glass of it everyday. If too strong, they can be diluted with water. They can be heated and used as a hot tea. I've sent some to friends and they have used the herbaceous ones in their cocktails. Anyway, that is where it all started and since the sea buckthorn berries just came in I thought I would share them with you.
As always, the menu is dictated by what is available locally and seasonal.
Hope you will enjoy this week's menu as much as I enjoy planning, gathering and preparing for you.
And please support your local farms and farmers markets.
