First time I ever had grits...
First time I ever had grits was when I was in college down in Richmond. After pulling an all-nighter and finishing our final exams my study partner suggested that we go to a local breakfast chain restaurant.
First thing he ordered was grits. I had never heard of grits before but he suggested that I would like it. Once the small bowl of grits was served to us, not knowing any better, I just took a spoon full of this bland hot cereal that was not something I would recommend to anyone. Laughing out loud, he demonstrated the proper way of enjoying grits. Lots of butter, salt and lots.of black pepper. I have to admit, as much as I am not a big fan of butter (I know everyone in the world loves butter, but I don't okay? It tastes like cow to me and I have been a vegetarian for 39 years), I loved what I was eating. Now it might have been because I might have been living on ramen noodles, pizza and coffee during the exam week but ever since then I am a big fan of grits. I have omitted butter, I think olive oil tastes better and now I make more versions than I can mention in an email.
So basically the menu this week started with me thinking, what should I make with grits and husband immediately said, Shrimp. So there you have it!
